Walter grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. He started flying at the age of 13 in hot air balloons, received his private glider license at 16 and soloed a Cessna 152 that same year. At 18 Walter earned his multi-engine commercial license and started his own banner towing and crop-dusting business and within twelve months earned his commercial helicopter license. At 22 years of age Walter became type rated in the Lockheed Jetstar.
Walter gained his first Part 135 charter experience at the age of 25 in West Palm Beach, FL when he became a check airman and chief pilot in the Hawker 700 and the Sikorsky S76 helicopter. He then added the Gulfstream GII to his repertoire which led him to joining New World Aviation in 2004 as the Chief Pilot and progressing to Director of Operations in 2005. During his time at New World Walter was qualified as Captain and Check Airman on their Gulfstream IIB’s and Sikorsky S76B.
From 2007 to 2008 Walter oversaw the establishment and development of 26 North Aviation’s charter certificate fifteen months ahead of the national average which exemplified Walter’s level of competency and management skills. Walter’s knowledge and expertise did not go unnoticed and was rapidly brought into Presidential Airways, one of the largest Department of Defense Contractors, as the fixed wing Chief Pilot and within a matter of months was head of both fixed wing and rotor wing. Walter managed 250 pilots in Iraq and Afghanistan while being the Check Airman and instructor for the Bell 412, Casa 212, Eurocopter SA330J and the Bell 214ST. In 2010 Walter became the Director of Operations and moved the company to Melbourne Florida. The company was renamed to AAR Airlift and grew to fifty aircraft and three hundred air crews.
In March of 2016, Walter started Archangel Aviation as a contract training provider to DOD and DOD Contractor companies. He provided essential qualification training to over three hundred Air Force Para Rescue Men (PJ’s).
In January 2019 Walter purchased Universal Air Service, a Part 135, 133 and 137 company. In May of 2019 Universal began flying range clearing missions for space launch companies at Cape Canaveral Space Port. To date, Walter has flown over 198 missions including launches and capsule recoveries. Universal is the only private company ever to perform this mission. Throughout his flying career Walter has accumulated more than 17,400 hours of flying and is type-rated in eight aircraft as well as an accomplished glider and hot air balloon pilot. He has flown to more than seventy countries on four continents.
